Posted by Dustin Oldfather on Tuesday, July 25th, 2017 at 3:55pm.

Our latest "Weekender Blog" has a bit of an international flair this week, as teenage softball players, their coaches and supporters again visit Coastal Delaware for the annual Senior League Softball World Series in Roxana.

This is a great event and one that really shines the spotlight on our area every summer. It's held at the Lower Sussex Little League complex, so be sure to stop by during the eight days of the tournament and take in some of the action.

You can read more about this Little League International event below, as well as some other great things happening this week in the coastal region.

Here's Taylor Wade with a preview...

Our featured events this weekend are located throughout the coastal region, from Rehoboth Beach and Lewes, south to Ocean City, and points in between.

So get out there and make it a great weekend at the Delaware beaches.

On to this weekend's featured events. As mentioned above, we begin in Roxana...

Senior League Softball World Series (July 30-August 6). Held at the Lower Sussex Little League complex in Roxana, this Little League International event features teams from all throughout the United States, as well as Latin America, Canada, Asia and Europe.

It’s the final destination for teenage girls who play throughout the summer for a chance to participate in the World Series. And the final three games of the event will once again be televised on the ESPN television network.

This is the 42nd year for this particular event, and the 17th year it's been held in Delaware. The host team for 2017 is from the Georgetown Little League.

Visit www.seniorsoftballws.org for more information.

Greek Festival (July 28-31). This is the largest Greek festival on the Delmarva Peninsula and it's scheduled for July 28-31 at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center, on Coastal Highway in Ocean City.

This is the 28th year for this popular event, which features an incredible assortment of Greek food, many unique vendors, Greek performers and dancers and much more.

Admission is free and doors open to the public each day at 12 p.m.

Festival proceeds benefit the community and ministry programs of St. George Greek Orthodox Church.

Rehoboth Art League Fine Arts Exhibition (July 28). This kickoff of the art league’s 79th showcase exhibition will be held at the Corkran, Tubbs and Ventures Gallery on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., with awards of excellence presented to various artists.

The work of more than 100 artists will be featured in the exhibit. Visit www.rehobothartleague.org for more information.

Monkey Monkey Music Show (July 29). Bring the kids to the Freeman Stage this Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m., for a special show featuring the stars of Monkey Monkey Music.

Movies on the Beach (July 31). Held every Monday night during the season, these family friendly movies are fun for everyone. Bring your family, a blanket, and some popcorn to the beach for family movie night! Movies will start at approximately 8:30 p.m. on the beach at Dagsworthy Street in Dewey Beach and Garfield Parkway in Bethany Beach. This week's selections are""Moana" (Dewey Beach) and "Secret Life of Pets" (Bethany Beach).

BONUS EVENT

Carey’s Camp (July 26-August 6). This is the 129th year for this popular church camp near Millsboro, and if you want to experience a true taste of Sussex County, there’s no better place to do so.

A throwback to Methodist revival meetings of yesteryear, dozens of families re-open “tents,” which are actually one-and-a-half story cottages, every year at Carey’s Camp and live together for two weeks, socializing, eating, playing games and holding church services.

In the evenings, the central sanctuary becomes the focus and the public is welcome to join in on the activities, whether it be sermons or musical performances.

The first Carey’s Camp was held in 1888 and it is one of only a few such camps remaining in the country. For more information, and a complete schedule of events, visit www.careyscamp.org.
