What began as a whimsical hobby back in 1991 has turned into anything but for local residents David and June Edwards. And for five days in December, that former hobby turned full blown way of life will once again be open to the general public at the couple's Lewes area property.

A unique collection begun more than a quarter century ago by the patriarch of the Edwards family, the annual Christmas Village has become a holiday tradition for many in the coastal Delaware region, with several hundred visitors once again expected to view the displays in 2017.

The Edwards' collection now totals nearly 400 miniature holiday displays. Some have been bought, some have been donated and some have been built by David Edwards himself.

Each one is special

Friends, colleagues and members of the general public were invited guests of the Oldfather Group of Ocean Atlantic Sotheby’s International Realty during a special event in Rehoboth Beach on Saturday, Nov. 18, to celebrate Chief Buyer Consultant Adam Linder’s $50 million in local real estate sales.

A milestone reached just five years after obtaining his real estate license in 2012, Linder fielded questions from those in attendance and talked about some of the benefits and unique challenges of southern Delaware’s real estate industry during the two-hour event at 330 Rehoboth Avenue.

“It feels really good to help people realize their dreams, but you have to educate yourself about the coastal Delaware area first,” says Linder, who has now accumulated

We all remember what it was like to view the world with a childlike innocence, strolling through the woods on a crisp autumn morning to the sounds of rustling in the bushes, birds chirping overhead or the excited giggles of our friends.

For Abbott's Mill Nature Center Site Manager Matthew Babbitt, it's how he spends many of his days at the more than 500 acre site he and the Delaware Nature Society oversee in southern Delaware.

If we teach children while they're young, the group maintains, they'll grow up with a healthy respect for the environment and all of the animals, plants and natural elements than encompass it.

"The biggest joy for me at my job is seeing children make that personal connection with nature," admits Babbitt, who's originally

It's officially the holiday season at the Delaware beaches, and is there anything more special this time of year than traditions?

It's a long-standing tradition throughout the United States, for example, that the day after Thanksgiving kicks off the much anticipated Christmas season.

For the last 31 years in Rehoboth Beach, that means the lighting of the large Christmas tree at the end of Rehoboth Avenue, near the city's famous one-mile-long Boardwalk.

And this year's event is nearly here, so let's tell you a little bit about what you can expect.

This yearly tradition has been organized by Rehoboth Beach Main Street since 1999 (though it actually began 13 years earlier) and is hosted in 2017 by Clear Space Theater.
