With this weekend marking the official beginning of the 2018 Christmas season in the coastal region, we have a few great holiday-themed events to tell you about here in our latest "Weekender Blog."
If you missed last week's blog, which you can view here, both the Winter Wonderfest in Lewes and the Winterfest of Lights in Ocean City have kicked off for 2018 and will again welcome thousands of visitors between now and New Year's Eve.
But this weekend we kick things into even higher gear, with the always looked forward to lighting of the Rehoboth Beach Christmas Tree, which will officially kick off the holiday season in the "Nation's Summer Capital" this Friday evening near the Bandstand and the Boardwalk.
Here's the Oldfather Group's Sherry Thens with a quick video preview of what's coming up during this final weekend of November here in the coastal region.
Now, let's take a closer look at what's on tap for the weekend of Nov. 23-25 at the Delaware and Maryland beaches:
Rehoboth Beach Tree Lighting (November 23). Scheduled for this Friday, from 6:30 to 7 p.m., the lighting of the Rehoboth Beach Christmas Tree officially kicks off the 2018 holiday season in coastal Delaware.
In addition to the lighting of the tree, there will also be a sing-along with a lot of your favorite holiday tunes. So come to the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand on Friday night for this festive annual event.

Dewey Beach Tree Lighting (November 24). Not wanting to let their next door neighbors have all the fun this weekend, Dewey Beach will be holding their own tree lighting ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 24, from 6 to 9 p.m.
Fifer's Orchards Market on Cullen Street is the location for this holiday event, which everyone in Dewey Beach is invited to attend.

Rehoboth Beach Gingerbread Contest (November 24). Held at Epworth United Methodist Church on Holland Glade Road, this delicious competition is scheduled for this Saturday, November 24, beginning at 10 a.m.
Both amateur and professional bakers are invited to participate, and there will also be a separate division for nonprofit organizations, as well as a special opportunity for "Breakfast with Santa."
Proceeds from this event will be used to help "Christmas Joy" and other local missions this holiday season.

Dewey Beach Sip and Shop (November 23-24). Back for it's fourth year, this annual event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, at the Starboard Restaurant on Route 1.
Representatives from several area breweries will be on hand giving out complimentary beer samples each day, beginning at 12 p.m. These include Dogfish Head, Dewey Beer Company, Big Oyster Brewer, 38-75 Brewing, Revelation Craft Brewing Company, Mispillion River Brewing and Crooked Hammock.
There will also be around 30 vendors featuring all kinds of different artwork and goods for sale, and the first 500 people on both Friday and Saturday will receive free gift bags.
Live music will also be featured each day, so be sure to stop by and celebrate both Black Friday and Small Business Saturday in Dewey Beach!
A Christmas Carol (November 23-25). Join the folks at Clear Space Theatre this holiday weekend for three special performances of the holiday classic "A Christmas Carol."
Ebenezer Scrooge will once again face his inner demons and learn how to enjoy Christmas in this all-time holiday favorite, with shows scheduled for 7 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, and at 3 p.m. this coming Sunday.
Clear Space Theatre is located at 20 Baltimore Avenue in downtown Rehoboth Beach. For tickets and more information, visit www.clearspacetheatre.org.
Whatever you choose to do this weekend, we hope you have a fun and exciting few days in the coastal region.
