Resting in the very northern tip of Delaware, along the border with Pennsylvania, the town of Hockessin boasts a history that dates back to the late 1600s.
Delaware’s first Roman Catholic Church is located in the town, along with several historic sites that are included on the National Register of Historic Places.
Hockessin’s most famous resident was Cab Calloway, the beloved jazz singer and bandleader who now has a performing arts school named for him in nearby Wilmington.
Popular attractions in and around Hockessin include the Ashland Nature Center, the Mt. Cuba Center botanical gardens, the Marshall Steam Museum and the Delaware Museum of Natural History.
Hockessin’s most popular annual event is the Fourth of July festival, where local groups march down Old Lancaster Pike and neighborhoods compete in different athletic events. The day concludes with a fireworks display in Swift Park.
The town also features several great local eateries, ranging from historic restaurants and taverns to fine dining, and everything in between.
